How to Choose a Blood Pressure Monitor for Home Use
By Abbasi Surgical Team · Updated 26 Oct 2026

An automatic upper-arm blood pressure monitor with the correct cuff size gives the most reliable home readings. Check four attributes before buying: cuff position, cuff size, memory and power.
Upper-arm or wrist?
Upper-arm monitors measure at heart level and are less affected by wrist position, so most doctors recommend them for home monitoring.
Cuff size
Measure the circumference of your upper arm midway between shoulder and elbow. Standard cuffs fit 22–32 cm; wide-range cuffs fit 22–42 cm.
Memory and users
Two-user memory lets a household share one monitor; 90–120 stored readings make it easy to show trends to your doctor.
Power
Battery power is portable; a USB or mains adapter avoids running out mid-reading.
